Sandy Patton grew up in a musical family. Her grandfather Frank Gray was a trompetist in the 20s and 30s, her uncle Benjamin Gray an internationally known concert pianist. Many other family members have also been active musicians.
Although Sandy sang as a child, it was not until she attended Howard University that she began to study voice and started singing professionally with a Washington, D.C, based group called "Face of The Earth". After recording with this group, Sandy formed her own group "Spirit". While developing her craft in D. C.'s jazz and night clubs,
she successfully auditioned for the Lionel Hampton orchestra and toured for three years. Considering this the university of jazz, entertainment and life, she graduated.
Then moving to Miami, FL, she began to expand her talents and performed in musical theatres, at the Coconut Grove Playhouse under the direction of José Ferrer and later Arnold Mitteleman, Jan McArth theatre, South of Broadway. And later becoming a member of SAG (Screen Actor's Guild), she performed in films and commercials.
Having previously toured Europe with Lionel Hampton, Sandy decided to return on her own. Meanwhile, she has lived and worked extensively in France (Paris, Marseille, Côte d'Azur) and Switzerland.
Sandy Patton is now residing in Bern, Switzerland, where she is the vocal instructor for the professional department of the Swiss Jazz School (SJS). She continues to record and tour during her free time.
Sandy has performed with and shared the stage with some of the greatest musicians in jazz: Al Gray, Paquito D'Riveira, Dizzy Gillespie, Jimmy Woode, Cab Calloway and Joe Haider, just to name a few.
